Alfred Johns Pty. Ltd. was incorporated in 1949 when Alfred
Thomas Day and John Rush, two existing directors of an
old established photoengraving company called Bacon &
Co. Pty. Ltd., bought out a small photoengraving business
call Ross Maclean Pty. Ltd. and combined their two given
names to form the company Alfred Johns Pty. Ltd. John
Rush managed the business until 1975 when he sold his
interests to his General Manager Roy McDougall and Production
Manager Ron Ward.
The new owners continued developing the business, introducing new equipment and technology as the changes took place within the industry. The company progressed through photoengraving to lithographic plates, to photopolymer rotary letterpress, to flexographic plates over the next fifteen years.
On December 1986, the company moved from its old overcrowded location at 222 Clarence St, Sydney, to the larger and more suitable premises it now occupies at 25 Fitzroy St. Marrickville.
In December 1987, Director Ron Ward retired and sold his interest in the company to Roy McDougall, the current owner.
The company now has, with the introduction of the latest electronic equipment and software, developed into a complete pre-press trade house supplying the complete package from electronic artwork preparation through to finished colour separated film, proof and plates for all printing processes.
Since the introduction of its first electronic step & repeat machine in 1975,
Alfred Johns has become widely known for its knowledge,
quality and expertise as specialists in the carton,
label and packaging industry.
Alfred Johns has a policy to keep abreast of new improvements in techniques brought
about by changing technologies and equipment and with the appointment of the
new generation of Directors in Ian & Wayne
McDougall, we believe we will continue to lead the way in the supply of quality
pre-press products and services as part of the overall communications industry.
